INTRODUCTION
Number the Stars is an exciting book that illustrates true “brotherly love” as well as right behavior in the midst of a Nazi occupation. Everyone, even children, have an opportunity to act with true compassion.

This novel gives students a more personal look into World War II through the eyes of two families and their daughters. Lowry presents a little known blessing found in this horrible war: the good “neighbors” of Denmark.

Through an intentional spiral curriculum, students will continue to develop their vocabulary, deepen their reading comprehension, sharpen their writing skills, and strengthen their Biblical knowledge. They will climb a spiral staircase of critical thinking and mastery of the essentials of 7th grade language arts.
