Boyo 3: The Cord of Three Strands

In this flagship course, students receive writing instruction with a laser focus on the essential building block: the paragraph. In addition to new vocabulary, literary terms, WW II history, and strategies for critical thinking, they will continue to develop skill and confidence in reading, writing and thinking.

Using the Doc H. approach, students gain historical knowledge as well as focused training in literary analysis, reading comprehension, graduated grammar and writing assignments as well as vocabulary development. This course also includes varied types of assessments.

Boyo 3 is the Flagship book for 8th Grade.
It is book 1/6 in our annual packages.

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to The Cord of Three Strands, the Flagship Work for 8th grade at Discern Academy.
The Cord of Three Strands is the third book in The Adventures of Boyo series. It deeply explores friendship, responsibility, and adventures in the Maine wilderness.
 
This book enables students to continue with Tom Timothy and his adventures. His experiences become more intense and more real as he struggles with fear and forgiveness. The plight of his father trapped behind enemy lines in Germany becomes even more dangerous.

Our goal at Discern Academy is to immerse you in great literature so that you can increase your critical thinking skills, improve your writing ability, and escalate your reading comprehension while enjoying quality writings.
Immediately following this video, you will find key documents that will make your learning experience better. Please take the time to review them and take notes.

Through an intentional spiral curriculum, students will continue to develop their vocabulary, deepen their reading comprehension, sharpen their writing skills, and
strengthen their Biblical knowledge. They will climb a spiral staircase of critical thinking and mastery of the essentials of 8th grade reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Foundational Mastery at the Middle School Level

Foundational Mastery Emphasis

Boyo 3 continues Discern Academy's Mastery Middle School Program. This book offers numerous avenues for learning, from Christian themes to grammar essentials to solid vocabulary acquisition to reading and writing competency to higher levels of critical thinking, and, ultimately, to a foundation for Godly wisdom and discernment

At Discern Academy, each Flagship course (the first work taught at each grade level) includes the complete curriculum for the year, with the exception of additional memorization pieces. Initial lectures and focused activities cover the entire Mastery Spectrum

Each grade level will have a "Flagship" book that embodies the entire Mastery Spectrum for that grade level. In the Flagship course, students will be taught the key concepts. All other works at that grade level will practice, revisit, and further reinforce these key concepts. With the Doc H Approach, achieving the Mastery Spectrum is a very realistic goal.
